y/o) who would like to mentor youth leaving foster care or group homes. The role of the mentor is an
important one. Our goal is to connect youth with long-lasting mentors that will part of the youth's

Being a StepStones Mentor involves giving unconditional positive regard and being a positive role
model when working with youth who have experienced significant trauma/loss. It requires flexibility,
and a commitment to supporting the youth in navigating life circumstances. The role requires the
ability to supporting the youth in a non-judgemental way that also gives the youth autonomy to make
their own decisions. It involves encourage growth without pressure.
You will be asked to meet with a youth at least once every 2-3 weeks for approximately 3-4 hours at a
time. A minimum three-year commitment is required (but we prefer it if you treat this as a lifelong
commitment and relationship to the youth). During your meetups with your mentee, you may attend
workshops put on by StepStones and/or engage in fun activities such as attending a movie, going for
lunch, attending a festival, going ice skating, rock climbing, sports event and/or other low-cost activities in

the goals created at the beginning.
