Teleconnect Volunteer: Full job description
As a Teleconnect Volunteer, you will be responsible for:
- regular telephone outreach to individuals affected by dementia, including clients, caregivers, or community members connected to the Alzheimer Society Assisting with the planning, coordination, and delivery of Alzheimer Society events
- offering social connection, wellness check-ins, and a compassionate listening ear. Acting as a positive and professional ambassador, helping to strengthen community partnerships and expand local support
- share general information about Alzheimer Society programs and services, provide reminders about upcoming events or supports, and help identify any changes in well-being that may require follow-up by staff

What we're looking for
Compassion and empathy – able to engage kindly and sensitively with individuals living with dementia and their care partners
Strong listening skills – attentive, patient, and able to pick up on emotional cues over the phone
Clear communication – speaks in a calm, respectful, and easy-to-understand manner
Reliability and consistency – committed to regular contact and following through on scheduled calls
Respect for confidentiality – understands and maintains privacy of personal information
Patience and understanding – comfortable with repetition and varying communication needs
Non-judgmental attitude – open-minded and supportive of diverse experiences and situations
Basic problem-solving skills – able to recognize when concerns should be referred to staff
Comfort with telephone-based interaction – confident engaging without visual cues
Dependability and professionalism – represent the Alzheimer Society in a positive and respectful manner
Knowledge and/or experience in any of the role responsibilities is considered
an asset.

Your commitment
- Report to Jessica Verbeek, Support Counsellor
- Independent role work/responsibilities (approx. 4-8 hours per month)
- A regular, predictable schedule (e.g., same day/time each week or biweekly) to support continuity with clients
- Flexibility to adjust scheduling as needed with notice
- Ideally a commitment of 6 months to 1 year to allow relationships and familiarity to develop
- Completion of initial training and orientation
- Occasional check-ins or support meetings with staff
- Consistent follow-through on assigned calls, with communication if unable to complete them
