Bright pupils (10–13 years old), are in need of a greater challenge yet have a lot of potential. Our students wish to develop their research and presentation skills on subjects outside of the classroom - and can excel in this field with the help of mentors.
Mentors are paired with students chosen by teachers at the school of their choosing based on their interests and areas of specialization. The project's subject is chosen by the student. Geology, physics, astronomy, art, fashion, and other subjects are covered. An average project lasts 10 to 12 weeks. The mentor and student meet for an hour each week while classes are in session in the school (various schools in Ontario). Together, they conduct research and create a presentation that will be delivered to the class by the student. Students and mentors independently assess the mentoring program and offer suggestions to enhance delivery.
Support given:
- 3-hour orientation session
- The support of school coordinators
- attendance at presentations of projects by students other than one's own
- if interested, participation in the OISE, University of Toronto, Annual Youth Conference
- Reference letters from PMC are available upon request.
