Support Group Facilitator (Saskatoon)

Summary

We lobby on behalf of the Canadian Parkinson's community with the federal, provincial, and territorial governments while also offering education and services. The Parkinson Research Program provides funding for cutting-edge studies to find more effective medications and a cure.

Role responsibilities:

In the delivery of support services at the community level, the Support Group Facilitator is a key player. They establish a safe, inviting environment once a month, either in-person or online, where persons with Parkinson's disease and/or their care partners can interact and form supportive bonds. 3 to 5 hours per month are required for this position.

You possess a strong desire to improve the lives of those affected by Parkinson's as a support group facilitator. You may make monthly support groups a safe place by being compassionate, enthusiastic about learning, and able to encourage conversation about Parkinson's-related topics.

Required skills:

What is Required for This Role Success? Having empathy and a nonjudgmental attitude towards helping others effective listening and communication abilities Ability to lead discussions that center the voices of individuals affected by and living with Parkinson's a dedication to serving as an example of diversity and inclusion Background in nursing, social work, or a related sector is advantageous, as is a love of learning Willingness to collaborate closely with Parkinson Canada employees Ability to do administrative duties and offer promotional assistance Comfort level or readiness to learn about virtual meeting technologies Willingness to take on the logistical aspects of monthly group meetings if support groups resume in-person activities
