About This Opportunity

About this opportunity:

As a Counsellor-in-Training (CIT) Volunteer, you will support camp counselors in delivering engaging activities and ensuring campers have a safe, fun, and inclusive experience. You will work closely with our team to assist with supervision, participate in activities, and develop the skills needed to become a future camp leader.

Key responsibilities are as follows:

  • Assisting camp counselors in supervising campers and supporting daily camp routines and activities.
  • Leading games, group activities, and icebreakers under the guidance of experienced counselors.
  • Helping set up and organize camp materials, activity stations, and equipment to ensure smooth program delivery.
  • Supporting camper engagement by encouraging participation and fostering a positive, inclusive environment.
  • Participating in CIT training sessions and workshops to develop leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.

Requirements:

  • Enthusiasm for working with children and supporting a positive, engaging camp environment.
  • Willingness to learn, take initiative, and develop leadership and teamwork skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with campers and team members.
  • Responsibility, reliability, and the ability to follow guidance from camp counselors and facilitators.
  • Ability to participate actively in camp activities and support campers throughout the day.
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check is required from successful candidates (not reimbursed). These can be obtained after placement is secured but must be acquired before the first day of placement.

Assets:

  • Experience participating in camps, youth programs, or recreational activities.
  • Experience working with children in volunteer, tutoring, or mentorship roles.
  • Leadership experience through school clubs, sports teams, or community initiatives.
  • First Aid or CPR certification.
  • Fluency in more than one language (encompassing reading, writing, speaking, and listening abilities) to support our diverse community.

This is a volunteer position. We can accommodate different working modes—fully in-person (1595 16th Ave, Richmond Hill), hybrid mode, or fully remote—depending on the candidate’s circumstances. Placement format will be discussed during the selection process.
