About This Opportunity
U+ Community — Unpaid volunteer opportunity
Like working with numbers and getting the details right? Help U+ Community keep expense records clear and organized. As an Accounting & Bookkeeping Volunteer, you will support staff with receipts, expense spreadsheets and reconciliation preparation, giving the team reliable documentation for its day-to-day work.
About U+ Community
U+ Community brings volunteers together to support community programs and events. Through U+ Volunteer Connect, volunteers contribute to practical projects in program support, administration, communications and technology.
What you will do
- Sort and organize receipts, invoices and other expense documentation using the team's filing process.
- Enter dates, amounts and staff-approved expense categories into spreadsheets, checking that each entry has supporting documentation.
- Compare assigned expense entries with supporting records and identify missing receipts, duplicate entries or differences for staff to review.
- Help prepare reconciliation worksheets and simple expense summaries under staff supervision.
- Keep financial information confidential, maintain a clear record of changes and leave approvals and final accounting decisions to staff.
What you bring
You are careful with numbers, organized and comfortable using a spreadsheet. An interest in accounting or bookkeeping is helpful. You should be willing to follow instructions, ask questions and flag a discrepancy rather than make an unsupported adjustment.
What you will gain
Practise expense tracking, document control and reconciliation support using real administrative tasks. Build confidence explaining discrepancies and preparing records that another person can review.
Support and responsibility
All bookkeeping work is supervised and subject to staff review. This support role does not authorize payments, spending decisions, tax advice or independent management of accounts.
