A community-based alternative to court that gives young people a second chance on a bad decision. Youth Justice Committee volunteers help young people move through and past a minor offence by holding them accountable without holding them back. With support, young people from all walks of life turn their mistakes into opportunities to grow and give back to their communities.
*Attend initial and ongoing training
*Attend “panels”, a meeting where the young person and their family with the YJC members (approximately 5-10 hours/month)
*Attend Committee Member meetings including Annual General Meeting (approximately 1-2 hours per year)
*Be flexible, open minded and willing to learn

Impact a young person’s life by empowering them to have a voice; increase their accountability; develop self-awareness, all with the goal of avoiding a formal youth record and developing positive relationships with adults in the community.
Help families by considering their needs as well, providing additional resources to address family difficulties and ensuring cases are handled expediently and efficiently.
