About This Opportunity
Volunteer Leader for the Biosphere Eco-Cities Canada (BECC) Web Team
A Biosphere Eco-City (BEC) uses information and projects to engage people
in sustainability, in urban and surrounding rural areas of a city. The national website
(https://BioEcoCity.org) explains this approach.
BACKGROUND
BECC has developed BEC initiatives in four cities. Local websites (Toronto.BioEcoCity.org,
Brampton.BioEcoCity.org, Edmonton.BioEcoCity.org, and Vancouver.BioEcoCity.org) describe BEC projects in these cities. BECC also liaises with a fifth pre-existing BEC initiative (Ottawa BEC).
The BECC web team currently has eight members. A web developer for each local site adds and formats content. Also, for each local site, another person posts project descriptions for a
database of sustainability projects. Recent updates have been made only to the local websites.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
The web team leader would coordinate the web team in the following ways:
Communicate with team members through email or other means
Liaise with BEC project leaders to help direct content to website developers
Help team members to resolve programming issues, when needed
Promote a similar, but not identical, style among the websites
Assist with interviews of potential new team members
EXPECTATIONS FOR THE CANDIDATE
The candidate would need experience with WordPress, HTML and CSS. Also needed is the
ability to organize and coordinate tasks. Experience leading a team or project would be an
asset. The work would be remote with an expected time commitment 3-4 hours per week for six months.
