    Virtual Volunteer Grant & Proposal Writer

    SJS Canada is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Volunteer Grant & Proposal Writer to help secure vital funding in support of individuals affected by Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) and related conditions. This position require 3-5 hrs per week

    Role Details

    Stevens-Johnson Syndrome Canada is a non-profit Charity that aims to promote health by providing people suffering from Stevens Johnson Syndrome and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (SJS/TEN) as well as their families and caregivers with access to related counselling, support groups and information programs. The President, a survivor of SJS/TEN founded this organization about 10 years ago. The intention is to promote education by providing workshops, forums and seminars about the disease and its effects, to the public and medical professionals.

    In this role, you will research funding opportunities, including government grants, and prepare compelling proposals, letters, and supporting documents for potential funders and sponsors. Working collaboratively with the finance team and supporting various committees, you will compile, proofread, and submit materials while helping to identify networking opportunities that strengthen funding partnerships.

    The ideal candidate has strong written and verbal communication skills, proven organizational abilities, and working knowledge of grant and proposal writing. Comfort with Microsoft Office and Google Suite is essential. The ability to work independently and meet deadlines is key.

    Duties of the Grant & Proposal Writer

    • Document preparation such as letters, memorandum, certificates, proposals
    • Work collaboratively with the finance team 
    • Compile and proofread materials for potential funding organizations 
    • Research funding opportunities including government grants
    •  Arrange possible networking opportunities 
    •  Responsible for seeking funding/sponsors and proposal writing 
    • Support on various committees 
    • Other duties as assigned 

     Desired Qualifications

    • Excellent written, editing, and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail.
    • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and external partners.
    • Demonstrated experience or working knowledge in grant research, grant writing, and proposal development (nonprofit experience considered an asset).
    • Proven organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision while maintaining accountability.
    • Strong research and analytical skills to identify and evaluate funding opportunities, including government and foundation grants.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive).
    • Professionalism, discretion, and the ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
    • A commitment to the mission and values of SJS Canada and an interest in supporting rare disease advocacy.
