VOLUNTEER DRIVER POSITION DESCRIPTION
This volunteer position is responsible for the delivery of hot and/or frozen meals weekdays to clients in the Brampton/Bramalea area. This role is also responsible for collecting payment and information provided by clients for delivery to the Brampton Meals on Wheels (BMOW) office. This role requires interpersonal skills, respect and consideration while dealing with clients, other Volunteers and staff. Details of additional duties relating to this role are listed below.
Specific Duties:
• Arrive at the office by 11:00 am (11:30 am at the latest) to collect meals. If running late, please notify the office. For Friday’s frozen food deliveries, arrival time is 9:45 am (10:30 am at the latest).
• Read route sheet to ensure that any special instructions are followed. Under some client names are instructions relating to special delivery instructions or food requests (i.e. 2 Soups – No Desserts).
• Review contents of thermal bags to ensure any specially labeled foods, such as soups and desserts, are delivered to the right client.
• Return insulated bags to the office either when finished delivering or when next scheduled to drive. (If you are a fill-in driver and not on a regular route, please make arrangements to return the bag as soon as possible.)
• Accept payment from clients when offered and return payment to the office. Drivers may be asked to collect payment from clients who pay on a weekly basis. Any money to be collected should be written on the route sheet beside each client’s name. Please ask for payment if none is offered from a client where money is indicated to be collected.
• If a client is not home, leave meal tied to door and notify the office. Plastic bags are available at the office. DO NOT LEAVE MEAL ON THE GROUND OR BRING MEALS BACK.
• If a client wishes you to relay a message back to the office, please ask the client to call the office directly.
