The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all volunteers within the chapter. These volunteers recruit new volunteers and places them within projects and campaigns. The VC supports and checks in with new and current volunteers.
Surfrider South Vancouver Island, Executive Committee
Position type: 2 year commitment (10-20 hours/month)
Reports to: Executive Committee
Summary: The Volunteer Co-Coordinator is responsible for coordinating volunteers within the chapter. These volunteers recruit new volunteers and places them within projects and campaigns. The VC supports and checks in with new and current volunteers within the chapter. The VC contributes to building the volunteer crew and is responsible for bringing in new volunteers on a regular basis, which is a vital component for chapter growth.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Shares the email address Volunteer@svi.surfrider.ca for all surfrider communications & checks this chapter email account and replies to emails within 2-3 days.
- Attends most monthly EC meetings as a voting EC member.
- Coordinate with EC and program leaders to identify volunteer needs and fill these needs.
- Ensures there is a volunteer sign up sheet at all BCUs and other events, and emails volunteers after the event.
- Keeps the volunteer page on the website updated (or work with web lead to keep updated).
- Lead volunteer recruitment through events, social media, and word of mouth opportunities.
- Manage the volunteer spreadsheet and keep track of volunteer onboarding.
- Ensure volunteers are being matched with opportunities, reach out to support from EC or Regional Manager if unsure of how to bring a new volunteer on board.
- Supports volunteer recognition (like VOTM with prize) and volunteer retainment (like end of year recognition party)
- Identifies what training volunteers may need and communicates this with EC and Regional Manager
- Ensures EC members get background checks, and anyone working with youth and finances (get support from Regional Manager as needed).
- Completes SF University in 3 months https://surfrider.ca/chapternet
- Contributes to the development and implementation of the chapter annual plan
- Attends Surfrider public meetings & events when available
- Joins/follows/likes; official Surfrider SVI Facebook page, public forum, Instagram feeds
Qualifications
- Familiar with all of Surfrider SVI programs & campaigns
- Becomes a Surfrider Foundation member
- Organized and can dedicate his/her time to accomplish monthly tasks
- Strong communicator, leader, team member, and public speaker
- Familiarity with MS Word, Excel, Google docs & calendar, mailchimp and WordPress
- Uses popular social media: Facebook, Instagram
- Holds BC drivers license, has access to a vehicle and is willing to use their vehicle for chapter operations
