    Volunteer Board Member

    Provide strategic leadership and governance to support the mission of Women for Social and Environmental Health, Canada. Attend board meetings, contribute expertise, support organizational growth, ensure accountability, and serve as org. ambassador

    Role Details

    Board Members provide strategic leadership and governance to support the organization's mission, vision, and long-term sustainability. Directors act in the best interests of the organization by contributing their knowledge, experience, and professional expertise while ensuring sound governance, ethical decision-making, and responsible stewardship of organizational resources.

    This is a volunteer governance position and is not involved in the day-to-day management of the organization.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Attend and actively participate in regular Board and Annual General Meetings.
    • Help establish the organization's strategic vision, priorities, and policies.
    • Support good governance, accountability, transparency, and ethical leadership.
    • Review and approve organizational plans, budgets, and major initiatives.
    • Monitor organizational performance and help ensure financial sustainability.
    • Participate on Board committees or working groups as appropriate.
    • Assist with strategic partnerships, community engagement, and relationship building.
    • Support fundraising, sponsorship, grant development, and resource mobilization where appropriate.
    • Serve as an ambassador for Women for Social and Environmental Health, Canada.
    • Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and environmental responsibility in Board decision-making.
    • Maintain confidentiality and avoid conflicts of interest.

    Desired Qualifications

    We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences. Experience in one or more of the following areas is considered an asset:

    • Environmental sustainability or climate action
    • Public health or healthcare
    • Women's leadership and gender equality
    • Education or research
    • Non-profit governance
    • Finance, accounting, or auditing
    • Law or public policy
    • Human resources
    • Communications, marketing, or media
    • Fundraising or philanthropy
    • Indigenous relations and reconciliation
    • Community development
    • Accessibility and inclusion
    • International development
    • Government relations
    • Project management

    Previous Board experience is welcome but not required.

    Time Commitment

    • Attend regular Board meetings (typically every 1–2 months).
    • Participate in committee meetings as needed.
    • Volunteer approximately 3–8 hours per month, depending on projects and activities.
    • Attend the Annual General Meeting and occasional organizational events.
