About This Opportunity
Out Of Bounds (OOB) is seeking committed volunteers to join our Board of Directors and help strengthen our organization’s work across Toronto.
Founded in 2006 following Toronto’s “Year of the Gun,” OOB is a registered charity providing grief and trauma support to individuals and families affected by gun violence, alongside community programming and advocacy addressing its root causes.
This is a hands-on working board. In addition to attending meetings and contributing to governance decisions, members take responsibility for practical tasks and help move the organization’s priorities forward.
What you will do:
• Attend board meetings regularly and contribute to discussions and decisions.
• Help guide OOB’s direction, strengthen governance and oversee progress.
• Join at least one board subcommittee.
• Take ownership of agreed tasks and follow through on deadlines.
• Contribute to fundraising, outreach, communications or other priorities according to your skills.
• Draw on your networks to help identify resources, partnerships and opportunities.
• Represent OOB’s mission respectfully within the community.
• Consider serving as a board officer where your experience and availability allow.
What you will bring:
• A commitment to supporting survivors and families affected by gun violence.
• Empathy, sound judgement and respect for diverse perspectives.
• The ability to work collaboratively, manage differences constructively and maintain confidentiality.
• Willingness to learn about nonprofit governance and board responsibilities.
• Time and capacity to contribute beyond board meetings.
Previous nonprofit board or community leadership experience is an asset. We welcome skills in fundraising, accounting, governance, communications, public policy, social justice, trauma counselling, strategy and community leadership. Relevant professional experience is valuable but is not mandatory.
Commitment:
• A two-year term, renewable.
• Regular board meeting attendance.
• Participation in at least one subcommittee.
• Practical work between meetings.
This is an unpaid volunteer position. Meeting arrangements and the expected time commitment will be discussed with interested candidates.
OOB welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds, including people with lived experience relevant to our mission.
