Visitor Support, Learning Programs & Collections Assistance

WITH ROYAL BC MUSEUM & ARCHIVES

Summary

The Royal BC Museum & Archives has a long and meaningful volunteer legacy dating back to 1886. After a temporary pause during Covid-19, the museum has been gradually rebuilding its onsite volunteer program since 2022. Volunteers are welcomed as a diverse and engaged community who enjoy sharing their knowledge, supporting visitors, and contributing to one of the most respected cultural institutions in the province. Each year, volunteers collectively contribute more than 46,000 hours—helping preserve BC’s history and creating a welcoming, informative experience for the public.

Volunteer roles span many areas across the museum and archives. Opportunities include front-of-house support such as hosting, providing visitor information, and assisting at coat check; participating in adult and youth learning programs through tours, gallery animation, and public events; supporting school programming; and contributing to collections, research, special projects, and administrative tasks. The museum encourages anyone interested in helping make its collections and learning experiences accessible to reach out as they continue to expand volunteer cohorts.
