The Winnipeg Children's Access Agency is a non-profit, charity organization whose goal is to encourage contact between children and their parent or legal guardian in cases when there has been evidence of interpersonal abuse. This is accomplished through supervised visits and exchanges that take place in a safe, impartial, and child-focused setting.
Role responsibilities:
As an on-site visitation monitor, you must keep an eye on interactions between non-custodial parents and their kids. Monitors keep an eye on the visit and take action as needed. After the visit is over, Monitors accurately record the interactions they saw.
Required skills:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Strong verbal and written interpersonal and communication abilities are essential
- Mature, trustworthy, and accountable
Time commitment:
There are three nightly training sessions that monitors must attend. After completing training, volunteers must be available for a minimum of 12 months to fill 3 shifts each month (1 Saturday or Sunday per month is necessary). A shift can be planned on a weeknight or during the day on the weekends, and it lasts for 3 to 3.5 hours. Each month's Volunteer program is established well in advance.
