The Urban Garden Volunteer program at Iceland Teaching Garden runs throughout the growing season (late April to October 2023). Volunteers will be involved in various gardening tasks, including weeding, bed preparation, planting seeds, transplanting, and harvesting. The goal is to grow local and organic produce for Mississauga food banks while building skills in food growing and preparation. Ecosource is an environmental education charity serving various communities, with a focus on environmental engagement, waste reduction, urban agriculture, sustainability education, nature connection, and youth leadership.
This volunteer opportunity allows you to connect with your community, address food security issues, learn about food justice, and engage with the environment through hands-on food growing. It's a healthy outdoor activity, and high school students can receive credit towards their community service volunteer hours graduation requirement.
