Surfrider SVIis an volunteer-run Coastal Protection Nonprofit organization, the treasurer is responsible for supporting the financial needs of the chapter, ensuring the chapter has a strong financial record and is growing in a sustainable manner.

About This Opportunity

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Voting member of the Executive Committee, guiding the direction of the chapter and supports the implementation of the annual plan.
  • Filing Chapter receipts and tracking the income and expenses for the chapter alongside the head office bookkeeping team.
  • Tracks the monthly and annual budget and updates the year to date actuals, and reports on YTD actuals at the end of each quarter in EC meetings. Works to ensure the chapter is adhering to the annual budget in regards to fundraising goals and expenses.
  • Puts together budgets for projects and grants, in collaboration with other EC members and volunteers
  • Provides financial data for grant/sponsorship reporting 
  • Adheres to the Chapter Financial Manual Policies, Procedures, and Guidelines (Detailed information found on the ChapterNET under the Governance Header and subheader “Chapter Financial Forms). 
  • Signatory on the Chapter bank account
  • Uses email address treasurer@svi.surfrider.ca for all surfrider communications  & checks this chapter email account and Slack replying to emails within 2 days 


Qualifications 

  • Bookkeeping/accounting experience (good with numbers)
  • Budget experience
  • Familiar with all of Surfrider Foundation South Vancouver Island  programs & campaigns  https://vancouverisland.surfrider.ca/ 
  • Becomes a Surfrider Foundation member https://surfrider.ca/join 
  • Organized and can dedicate his/her time to accomplish monthly tasks  
  • Strong communicator, leader, team member, and public speaker
  • Familiarity with MS Word, Excel, Google docs & calendar and other tools required for the role
