About Arrival Aid

Arrival Aid is a nonprofit organization that supports newcomers and diverse communities through educational workshops, community engagement initiatives, and accessible information-sharing. To improve language accessibility, we are establishing a network of volunteer translators who can assist with translating materials into a variety of languages.

Position Summary

Arrival Aid is seeking multilingual volunteers to join our Translator Network. Members of the network will be invited to assist with translation requests on an as-needed basis. Requests may include community announcements, workshop materials, educational resources, social media content, promotional materials, and other communications intended for newcomer communities.

Participation is entirely voluntary and flexible. Volunteers may accept translation requests based on their availability and language expertise.

Responsibilities

• Translate written materials from English into another language and/or vice versa.

• Ensure translations are clear, accurate, culturally appropriate, and accessible.

• Review and proofread translated content when requested.

• Respond to translation requests within a reasonable timeframe, indicating availability to assist.

• Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive or unpublished materials.

Qualifications

• Fluency in English and at least one additional language.

• Strong written communication skills.

• Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

• Ability to work independently and meet agreed-upon timelines.

• Previous translation experience is an asset but not required.

Preferred Languages

We welcome applications from speakers of all languages. Languages commonly requested by newcomer communities may include Arabic, Mandarin, Cantonese, Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Farsi, Pashto, Korean, Tagalog, Tigrinya, Amharic.

How the Translator Network Works

Accepted volunteers will be added to a dedicated communication channel where Arrival Aid staff and coordinators will post translation requests. Volunteers may indicate their availability and accept assignments that fit their schedule and language expertise.
