About This Opportunity

South Vancouver Island Chapter, Executive Committee, 

Position type: One-Two year volunteer commitment (10-20 hours/month). 

Reports to: Executive Committee


Volunteer Role Summary: The Vice-Chair person is responsible for supporting the Chairperson and growing chapter programs and campaigns. This committee member collaborates with other Executive Committee members, strategizes new program and campaign areas, recruits volunteers for specific program and campaign needs and establishes partnerships with stakeholder organizations.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Runs Executive Committee  meetings in the Chair’s absence, performs other duties of the Chair as needed.

- Chairs  other committee of the chapter as requested.

- Lead/mentor/train others volunteers as necessary.

- Supports Chapter events including volunteer meet-ups, beach clean-ups and fundraisers 

Supports budgets and grant writing opportunities.

- Signatory on the Chapter bank account if there are not already two signatories, presently Treasurer and Chair.

- Uses Vice Chair email address for all surfrider communications  & checks this chapter email account and replies to emails within 2-5 days.

- Is a voting member of Executive Committee.

- Supports annual report and annual volunteer appreciation.

- Supports annual evaluation of the Chapter’s internal and external operations and efforts

Attends monthly Executive Committee meetings as a voting EC member (last Monday of each month 630-830pm).

- Contributes/leads at least 5 beach clean within South Vancouver Island per year.

- Contributes to the development and implementation of the Chapter’s strategic plan.

- Liaise with new and existing stakeholders, media, sponsors and partners.  

- Contributes content to monthly newsletter, core crew meetings, FB forums as necessary.

- Joins/follows/likes; official Surfrider Pacific Rim Facebook page, public forum, Instagram feeds.


Qualifications 

- Familiar with all of Surfrider SVI  programs & campaigns. 

- Becomes a Surfrider Canada Foundation member if possible.

- Organized and can dedicate his/her time to accomplish monthly tasks  .

- Strong communicator, leader, team member, and public speaker.

- Familiarity with MS Word, Excel, Google docs & calendar, mailchimp and WordPress

- Uses popular social media: Facebook, Instagram.

- Holds BC drivers license, has access to a vehicle and is willing to use their vehicle for chapter operations.
