DASCH is a non-profit organization founded in 1974 with the goal of identifying and addressing the needs of children and adults in residential, day program, respite, and foster care.
In this role, volunteers will connect informally and one-on-one with the people we serve for a significant amount of time. This can include engaging activities that the individuals we serve can look forward to, such as reading, playing games, baking, attending community events, and so on. Our goal is to find a fit between your interests and characteristics and those of the person we are supporting.
Role responsibilities:
-Act as a good example for the people we assist.
-Provide polite, considerate emotional and social support to those we support.
-Interact with the people we serve by giving them your undivided attention while you volunteer.
-Promote independence and decision-making by acknowledging and respecting their choices and interests.
-Provide safe and cautious transportation for the people we support to and from their destinations as well as home (if necessary).
-Retain open lines of communication with DASCH employees and managers to ensure that roles and responsibilities are coordinated.
Required skills:
-Speaks English fluently.
-Internet access via a smart device is necessary for communication.
-A positive outlook and excitement.
-Excellent interpersonal and written communication abilities.
-A plus is having solid knowledge of intellectual disability.
-Full or Intermediate Class 5 Manitoba Driver's License for any volunteer operating a DASCH vehicle or transporting clients we help.
Time commitment:
Your availability, the schedule of the individual we support, and how frequently you want to volunteer are just a few of the variables that will affect your Social Visits Volunteer schedule.
