Saskatoon Open Door Society Volunteer Programs (Mentoring, Tutoring, Conversation Circles, Youth Volunteering)

WITH SASKATOON OPEN DOOR SOCIETY (SODS)

Summary

Volunteer with SODS and support newcomers and community connection in Saskatoon through flexible, skill-building roles. They offer low-commitment options like Flex Volunteering and rotating special projects, plus core programs for longer-term involvement such as leading a weekly Conversation Circle, serving as a Community Mentor visiting a newcomer family once a week for three months, tutoring newcomer high school students through a Youth Study Group, or being a Campus Companion for youth planning post-secondary. There are also newcomer-focused pathways like front desk greeter roles (to build customer service and communication skills) and community placements with other nonprofits. For youth, SODS also offers volunteering opportunities tied to cultural events and a Youth Leadership Initiative for ages 14–24. Volunteers receive general orientation, program-specific training, and can access optional professional development workshops that lead to a volunteer training certificate.
