Foundations offers one-on-one assistance to youngsters to improve their reading strategies. Reading guides receive all necessary materials and participate in a 3-hour session on reading techniques and strategies. Volunteers and elementary school students are paired up, and they meet during the day either in person or by Zoom. The volunteer commitment is for a minimum of eight weeks, twice a week.
Skills required:
It is necessary to identify and practice the tactics that proficient readers utilize in order to make their skills visible. These competencies must be recognized, named, and modeled by volunteers, along with a lot of practice. The volunteer and the student can share the same language and objectives by talking about these criteria with the pupils. This will be covered in the necessary Spark training session for all volunteers.
