About This Opportunity

U+ Community — Unpaid volunteer opportunity

Remember how helpful a friendly face can be before speaking in front of a group? Join U+ Community as a Public Speaking & Program Support Volunteer and help facilitators create an encouraging experience for participants. You will support speaking activities and the practical preparation that helps each session run smoothly.

About U+ Community

U+ Community brings volunteers together to support community programs and events. Through U+ Volunteer Connect, volunteers contribute to practical projects in program support, administration, communications and technology.

What you will do

  • Help prepare workshop materials, activity instructions and session resources with the facilitator.
  • Assist with speaking exercises and small-group activities as directed by the program lead.
  • Encourage participants to take part respectfully and help them understand the activity instructions.
  • Support session organization, such as arranging materials, helping with activity timing and keeping the space welcoming.
  • Help collect participant feedback and share observations with the facilitator to support future sessions.

This role supports free community programs.

What you bring

You are patient, encouraging and comfortable interacting with a group. An interest in public speaking, education or youth programs is helpful. You can listen carefully, follow a facilitator's direction and respect different confidence levels and communication styles.

What you will gain

Practise group communication, activity support and facilitation skills. Contribute to sessions where participants can develop confidence and have opportunities to be heard.

Support and responsibility

Work under the program facilitator's direction. Follow the program's conduct, safety and participant-support procedures, and refer concerns to the lead. This is a support role rather than independent program leadership.
