About This Opportunity
High school student volunteers will mentor an elementary school student once a week after school in a one-to-one relationship (in a group setting). Each high school student will be paired with an elementary aged student in grades 3-8. These mentors will assist their mentee with homework, play educational games, engage in academic activities and develop organizational skills. There is also a boardgame portion at the end of each session. Homework Club takes place at a number of specific elementary schools across the Halton region.
Adult supervisors play an important role as they represent BBBS and support a group of high school mentors as they help younger students with homework, games, and learning activities. The role is to encourage the mentors, provide guidance, ensure everyone is supported, and help create a welcoming learning environment in collaboration with 1-2 other adult volunteers.
This role is ideal for volunteers who enjoy community involvement and supporting youth development from a leadership and coaching perspective.
The program runs once per week for 70 mins from October - April.
