About:
The North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) play a vital role in empowering Indigenous athletes to realize the immense possibilities within themselves physically, mentally, and spiritually as well as within their communities. These Games serve as a unifying platform where 756 Indigenous Nations will come together in Kjipuktuk (Halifax), Dartmouth, and Millbrook First Nation. NAIG 2023 is the 10th North American Indigenous Games, carrying forward the vision of organizing sporting events for the worlds Indigenous peoples. The Games will run July 16 - 23rd.
Volunteering Requirements for the North American Indigenous Games:
- At least 16 years of age as of June 1, 2023 to be able to volunteer by yourself
- Must be 18 years of age in order to volunteer for a leadership role
- Volunteers under the age of 16 are required to have a parent or legal guardian fill out and sign a consent form (volunteer will be working in groups with a chaperone)
- Volunteers must have (1) Criminal Record Check and (2) Enhanced Police Information Check
- Volunteers are required to participate in all 3 training sessions (1. NAIG Orientation, 2. Cultural Awareness, and 3. Role-Specific)
Time Commitment:
- Games-Time volunteers - minimum of 18 hours or 3 shifts the week of the games
- Volunteer Leads have a larger commitment to planning - minimum of 8 hours a month leading up to the Games
- Indigenous volunteers - minimum of 10 hours
What Volunteers Receive:
- A volunteer kit which includes volunteer t-shirts, a water bottle and more
- Free access to Halifax Transit services during the week of the Games
- Orientation, cultural education and role-specific training
