Food Bank Volunteer

WITH HARVEST MANITOBA

Summary

When we first began in 1985, the name Winnipeg Harvest was all that was required to know about us. Within the municipal borders, we gathered food and distributed it. As we developed, Harvest officially incorporated the Manitoba Association of Food Banks into our family in our 35th year. We pooled our resources and efforts to become the best and only provincial food network Manitoba has ever had, ranking fourth among food distributors of this type in Canada. And now, Harvest Manitoba, our new name, more accurately captures who we serve, where we serve, and the range of contributions we get.

Harvest gathers and distributes 12 million lbs. of wholesome food to hungry Manitobans each year because of our incredible sense of community and kind hearts. In our Winnipeg warehouse, using this food, we create Harvest Hampers that are subsequently given to feed more than 90,000 Manitobans each month, including hungry children, hard-working families, and struggling individuals. To make this happen, our volunteers yearly contribute the equivalent of 20 full-time employees. If it weren't for those who support us, we would not have lasted this long—38 years—or assisted as many people.
