Position Overview:
Feeding Assistants play a vital role in supporting our residents during mealtime, ensuring they receive the nutrition they need in a comfortable and supportive environment. Volunteers will assist staff in setting up meals, helping residents to the dining area, and providing encouragement during mealtime.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with meal setup, including preparing trays and organizing dining tables.
  • Help transport wheelchair-bound residents to and from the dining area.
  • Support staff with feeding residents who require assistance.
  • Encourage residents to complete their meals and provide a friendly, engaging dining experience.
  • Follow safety and hygiene protocols to ensure a clean and comfortable dining environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Strong communication skills in English, Cantonese, or Mandarin are required. However, certain roles may require the ability to interact with residents in their native languages.
  • Successful completion of the Tuberculosis (TB) screening and Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • An active interest in helping seniors in a compassionate, understanding and patient manner.
  • Completion of the feeding training.

 

Commitment & Locations:

  • Available Monday to Sunday for 3-4 hour shifts or as assigned.
  • A minimum commitment of 6 months is required.
  • The position will be at the Mon Sheong Scarborough Long-Term Care Centre (2030 McNicoll Avenue, Scarborough, ON)

  • Willing to undergo a background or police records check
  • Minimum 16 years old
  • Willing to complete medical forms
  • Fluent in Cantonese or Mandarin
  • Wiling to undergo a Tuberculosis (TB) test
