About This Opportunity
U+ Community is recruiting Event Coordinator Volunteers to support the York Region Volunteer Fair on September 20, 2026, at Thornhill Community Centre.
The York Region Volunteer Fair brings together students, community members, nonprofit organizations, and local organizations to connect individuals with meaningful volunteer opportunities and strengthen community engagement across York Region.
As an Event Coordinator Volunteer, you will work closely with the event team to help coordinate event-day activities, support fellow volunteers, monitor assigned areas, and help ensure the fair operates smoothly. This role also includes required leadership training, planning, and pre-event coordination activities.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist event leads with coordinating assigned event areas and activities
• Help ensure volunteers understand their assigned roles and responsibilities
• Check in with volunteers throughout the event and provide basic guidance when needed
• Monitor event areas to identify operational issues or areas requiring additional support
• Communicate updates, concerns, and volunteer needs to event leads
• Help coordinate communication between registration, ushering, logistics, and exhibitor support teams
• Assist with adjusting volunteer coverage when event needs change
• Support the event team in responding to unexpected situations or logistical concerns
• Help ensure event procedures and assigned responsibilities are followed
• Support event closing procedures and ensure assigned responsibilities are completed

Location: Thornhill Community Centre, 7755 Bayview Ave., Thornhill, Ontario
Previous leadership or event experience is considered an asset but is not required. Training and guidance will be provided. Ideal candidates will: • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills • Be reliable, punctual, responsible, and highly organized • Be comfortable taking initiative and supporting other volunteers • Have strong problem-solving and decision-making skills • Be able to communicate instructions and information clearly • Work effectively in a fast-paced team environment • Be comfortable monitoring multiple responsibilities and priorities • Remain calm and professional when unexpected situations arise • Demonstrate leadership, accountability, and good judgment • Be available for required training, planning activities, and the September 20 event An interest in event management, project management, business, leadership, operations, administration, or community engagement is considered an asset.
