Volunteer with the East Central Newcomer Welcome Centre and help support newcomers as they settle into the community. Opportunities include community connection support (like helping with community visits and events), one to one mentorship through their Connect Program, and special event volunteering for activities like the Festival of Cultures and other community nights. They also welcome volunteers who can support newcomers more directly through translation or interpretation, English language tutoring, computer skills tutoring, and workshop or event facilitation (for example teaching a skill, hosting an activity, or leading a session). There are leadership options too, including board involvement, and a peer leader opportunity connected to their Settlement Worker in Schools program. Volunteers apply through a formal screening process using an application package and a criminal record check once they’ve been contacted by staff.
