Distress Line Listener

Summary

Purpose:

As a Distress Line Listener, you will provide confidential and non-directive supportive listening to individuals in need. Acting as a first point of contact, you'll support callers on a 24-hour Distress Line, addressing issues such as family violence, bullying, mental illness, and suicide. Your role involves helping callers identify coping resources and providing referrals to appropriate community services.


Tasks:

Engage with Distress Line callers, offering immediate support and referrals when necessary.

Complete call sheets, call statistics forms, and Risk Assessments as required.

Maintain adherence to ethical standards and confidentiality protocols.

Undergo additional training for the Canadian Suicide Prevention Society.

Report any risk management issues to the volunteer supervisor.
