Stanley Park Ecology Society (SPES) is a non-profit that protects and restores the natural ecosystems of Vancouver’s Stanley Park while inspiring people to connect with nature. Volunteers are central to this work and can get involved in a wide variety of roles, from invasive species removal and wildlife monitoring to guiding visitors as EcoRangers or helping at the Nature House. Opportunities are available year-round and are designed to engage volunteers with both the ecological and community sides of the park.
SPES places a strong emphasis on training, recognition, and inclusivity. Volunteers receive orientation and program-specific guidance, gain valuable conservation skills, and after contributing 25 hours are eligible for reference letters. The society also hosts biannual appreciation events to celebrate volunteer contributions. Whether you’re looking to gain hands-on experience in habitat restoration, share your passion for nature with park visitors, or build skills for a career in ecology or education, volunteering with SPES offers a meaningful way to make a difference in one of Vancouver’s most beloved green spaces.
