About This Opportunity
Why It Matters
The Salvation Army's annual Christmas Kettle Campaign – our largest fundraising drive of the year – seeks donations from the public to help assist millions of people living in poverty. Funds raised by kettle volunteers stay completely local.
Key Responsibilities
- Setting up the Kettle: Retrieving and arranging the collection kettle at your designated location and ensuring its security throughout your shift.
- Welcoming Donors: Greeting shoppers, smiling, and thanking individuals for their contributions.
- Security & Breaks: Ensuring the kettle is never left unattended. Volunteers must pack it up or coordinate with a supervisor during any washroom or meal breaks.
Typical Requirements
- Time Commitment: Shifts are highly flexible, usually lasting anywhere from 2 to 4 hours, depending on your availability.
- Physical Demands: Volunteers spend most of their shift standing or sitting near the kettle, occasionally carrying or moving the equipment.
- Background Check: Depending on the local chapter, you may need to complete a brief application and review a code of conduct.
