Camp Nurse – Camp Limitless (Manitoba) At Camp Limitless, the Manitoba summer camp of Arthritis Society Canada, Camp Nurses play a key role in supporting children and youth living with juvenile arthritis and other rheumatic conditions. Camp takes place at Camp Manitou in Headingley, Manitoba, a fully accessible 39-acre outdoor camp setting designed for barrier-free participation in traditional camp activities such as swimming, canoeing, ropes courses, arts and crafts, and campfires.
Camp Limitless brings together campers aged 8–17 from across Manitoba, , creating a supportive community where youth can build confidence, independence, and friendships while participating in a safe and medically supported environment. As part of the on-site medical team, the Camp Nurse ensures campers can fully participate in camp life while their health needs are safely managed in a seamless and supportive way.
Key Responsibilities – Camp Nurse
• Provide direct nursing care to campers, including administration of prescribed medications
• Treat minor illnesses and injuries (e.g., colds, fatigue, headaches, home sickness related symptoms, minor wounds)
• Monitor and respond to camper health concerns throughout the camp week
• Be on-call during camp hours, including overnight coverage as required
• Maintain accurate documentation of medications, treatments, incidents, and health updates
• Communicate with parents/guardians when medical concerns arise
• Support campers in safely participating in all camp activities while respecting individual health needs
• Collaborate with camp staff, counsellors, and the broader Arthritis Society Canada team to ensure camper safety and well-being
• Contribute to a supportive, inclusive environment where campers feel understood and confident managing their condition
Camp Environment Context (Manitoba – Camp Manitou)
Camp Limitless is hosted at Camp Manitou, a lakeside and forested camp near Winnipeg, offering cabins, sports fields, a gym, waterfront activities, and outdoor adventure programming. The camp is designed specifically for children with arthritis, with:
• Adaptive, barrier-free programming
• On-site medical support
• A focus on independence, confidence-building, and peer connection • Structured rest and activity balance to support fatigue and pain management
Time Commitment
• One-week overnight camp (Camp Limitless runs July 20–24, 2026)
• On-site presence required for the full duration
• On-call nursing coverage, including overnight shifts
• Mandatory pre-camp training and orientation (virtual and/or in-person)
• Post-camp debrief and evaluation participation Qualifications
• Active RN or LPN registration in Manitoba (or applicable regulatory body)
• Valid CPR-C and Standard First Aid certification
• Vulnerable sector check
• Professional liability insurance
• Experience in pediatric care (preferred, especially chronic illness or rheumatology experience)
• Comfort working in a camp environment with independent clinical decision-making
