Mission Services is seeking volunteer Board members who are passionate about community impact and strong organizational leadership. This is an opportunity to help guide a respected and mission-driven organization while contributing to its long-term success and sustainability. We welcome candidates whose skills, experiences, and perspectives strengthen effective governance and strategic decision-making. Recruitment priorities may include experience or understanding of governance, finance, legal, human resources, risk management, community systems, fund development, addictions and mental health, domestic and intimate partner violence, food insecurity and homelessness.


POSITION SUMMARY:

Board members play an important role in helping Mission Services strengthen its impact and respond to the evolving needs of the community.

The Board of Directors provides governance leadership, strategic oversight, and stewardship to support Mission Services in achieving its mission and long-term goals. Through informed decision-making and effective governance, Board members help ensure the organization remains accountable, sustainable, and responsive to community needs.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare for and attend Board meetings.

Work as a team member and support Board decisions once made.

Review, clarify and amend the mission and objectives of the organization as required.

Develop, amend and approve By-Laws and governing policies.

Monitor the performance of the organization.

Keep informed about community issues relevant to the work of Mission Services.

Participate in the recruitment of new Board members.

Participate in Board Committees.

Participate in strategic planning processes.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of community services, including addictions, mental health, housing, poverty and violence against women.

Commitment to the organization’s mission, vision and values.

Availability to meet Board and committee time commitments.

Openness to learning.

Value and support the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.


REQUIRED CHECKS AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:


If elected or appointed, Board members are required to apply for a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check within thirty (30) days and provide documentation as soon as possible following election/appointment.


Board members are required to sign a Confidentiality Agreement and review/sign the Code of Conduct.


TERM: Three (3) year term to a maximum of two (2) consecutive terms, subject to applicable By-Laws.
