We are a charitable breast cancer organization in Manitoba that offers financial aid to people in need. Please be aware that since we don't have an office, our mailing address is a post office box rather than a real location.
Role responsibilities:
We are a small, independent board that only accepts volunteers from citizens of Manitoba. After serving on our board for a year, volunteers may explore applying for an executive, working, or client applications position. Due to our low overhead and lack of an office, we are able to return the majority of the funds raised through grants to our customers. Between September and June, on the third Wednesday of every month from 7 to 8:00 p.m., we switched from in-person meetings due to covid limits in 2020; there were no meetings during the summer. We discovered that this method worked well and will stick with it in 2023, perhaps adding a few meetings at a predetermined location to maintain our tight personal ties within this company.
Skills required:
People who want to contribute to the costs that inevitably slip through the gaps in a breast cancer patient's cancer experience. You must be a Manitoba resident and have a valid email address because client application summaries are sent out and votes are cast anonymously via a coded system.
Time commitment:
TEAMS now conducts board meetings online every third Wednesday from September to June from 7 to 8 p.m. Everyone on our working board contributes to planning fundraising events and other activities to assist our organization. After serving on the board for a year, every member must think about moving into an executive, working, or client applications job. Positions typically have two-year tenure with a four-year maximum (these lengths are flexible), with the vice-president moving up to the presidency after serving a two-year term.
Age restriction: 18+
