    Bilingual Digital Fundamentals Group Instructor

    Help adults with disabilities build digital confidence through virtual workshops on online safety, privacy, social media, and basic AI.

    Role Details

    The Opportunity:

    Digital Fundamentals empowers adults with disabilities across Canada to enhance their digital literacy and engage with technology. You can learn more about the program here. 
     
    As a Bilingual Digitals Fundamentals Group Instructor, you’ll lead virtual workshops that help clients understand and use technology at a basic level. Topics include managing digital footprints, online safety (romance scams, grandparent scams, employment scams), privacy and security, social media, and basic AI. Workshop content is pre-developed and typically are 1 to 1.5 hours long, with frequency based on requests from community partners. 
     
    Your involvement will have a lasting impact by empowering individuals to confidently navigate the digital world.

    Time Commitment: 2-3 Hours per Month
    Locations:  Virtual

    Main Responsibilities
    • Familiarize yourself with the core workshop concepts prior to each session (content is pre-developed) 
    • Lead group discussions and demonstrations on a wide range of topics, including online safety, privacy and security, social media, basics of AI, etc.
    • Gain an understanding of the audience and potential barriers with their technology and adjust how the content is presented to the group (including pace, language used, etc.)  
    • Encourage group interaction, ensuring that everyone feels comfortable asking questions and engaging with the content 
    • Be prepared to answer questions and clarify any concepts, as participants may have varying levels of familiarity with technology. Share relevant and available tools and resources as needed to further support participants  
    • Take brief session notes to track attendance and effectiveness of the presentation and to record any feedback or suggestions from participants   
    • Ensure proper logging of hours in the volunteer database and keep the Manager up to date on successes and challenges    
    Skills and Experience
    • Bilingual in English and French
    • 18 years of age and older
    • Tech savviness and troubleshooting skills  (no formal tech/IT training required)
    • Experience with or knowledge of various assistive and accessible technologies  
    • Access to a personal computer equipped with a camera and speaker/microphone as well as a stable internet connection  
    • A quiet work environment to ensure privacy and no interruption/distraction    
    • Excellent communication skills: including patience and willingness to learn about various disabilities and barriers
