The Assisted Transportation Program provides safe, reliable, and affordable transportation to adults aged 55 and older who reside in Dundas and surrounding areas and are independently mobile and cognitively able to participate safely in the service. The program supports access to essential medical appointments and local grocery shopping within the Greater Hamilton Area.

Transportation is provided by trained community volunteers using their own insured vehicles. Volunteers offer door-to-door assistance by escorting clients between their residence and destination, assisting them safely into and out of the vehicle, and helping with the loading and unloading of mobility aids such as canes and lightweight, collapsible walkers when required. Volunteers provide transportation and supportive assistance but do not provide physical lifting, personal care, or appointment accompaniment.

The program operates Monday to Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding statutory holidays. Clients are encouraged to provide as much advance notice as possible when requesting a drive, as transportation is dependent on volunteer availability. Each client may request up to two drives per week, with one destination permitted per request.

The program is made possible through the commitment of community volunteers who are carefully screened and approved, including completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check, references, an interview, and required documentation. Volunteers are expected to be reliable, respectful, safety-conscious, and mindful of client confidentiality. They receive mileage reimbursement for their service.

Through Assisted Transportation, clients are able to maintain greater independence, attend important medical appointments, access groceries, and remain connected to essential services in their community. The program helps reduce transportation barriers while providing clients with a compassionate and dependable connection to their community.
