One of the many heroes of Covid-19 that has arisen is the volunteer. Whether it is neighbour-to-neighbour, non-profit organizations, local business owners or faith based and non-traditional volunteer groups. Thousands of volunteers have stepped up to the plate to help where they can, answering the calls from the community.
In times of chaos, the flaws in our systems become starkly visible. One such flaw is the antiquated nonprofit notion separating donors and volunteers.
Our friends at the Minnesota Alliance for Volunteer Advancement (MAVA) have recently published the latest report from their inclusive volunteering project. Whilst the report has it’s origin in the ongoing racial tensions in the USA, the findings have lessons for all of us engaging volunteers, and so we are pleased to share the following update from MAVA on our blog.
