The Salvation Army Meighen Health Centre's mission is to deliver a suite of wellness and health services primarily to seniors in Long Term Care, Retirement Residence and in the Community. We demonstrate Christian values and provide excellent person-centered care. 

We are a 168 bed Long Term Care facility. We are owned and operated by The Salvation Army but funded by The Ministry of Health.

As a Friendly Visitor, you will visit with and go for walks with residents in the Alzheimer Unit and the Retirement Home.  If needed, to assist with recreational programs.

• Minimum age: 18
• Minimum hours per week: 5 hours
• Requirements: Police records' check and TB test required as well as two doses Covid Vaccine and some online education.

Building is accessible, close to the subway on the Yonge line, and we provide a free meal if volunteering more than 4 hours.

Must be kind and respectful and enjoy working with the elderly. 

Applicants will need a vulnerable police check and a two-step TB test.

The forms will be given to you at the interview time or you can apply online for the vulnerable police check.

Volunteers must be double vaccinated to volunteer and show proof of vaccination.

When volunteering, volunteers must wear a mask at all times and social distancing while in the building as well as being screened at the door.

Some basic understanding of Alzheimer disease as well as compassion, patience and understanding. Walking and standing; hearing; verbal communication; visual; reading and writing.

As a Friendly Visitor, you will visit with and go for walks with the residents, and residents in the Alzheimer Unit and residents from the Retirement Home.  If needed, to assist with recreational programs.
